It made sense that the very first goal of the York United FC era was a pretty memorable one.

Diyaeddine Abzi, who was voted Man of the Match by our Season Members, curled home an exquisite free-kick that reduced the deficit and ensured a frantic finale as the team pushed for a late equalizer.

Ultimately, it wasn't to be, but the strike is deserving of praise.

With 11 minutes remaining, Abzi stepped up and finessed a superb finish inside Marco Carducci's near post. Jose Escalante could only watch as Abzi expertly bent the ball around him and placed it neatly in the corner.

Late on, the impressive Abzi - operating on the left side of midfield - almost grabbed a second when he lobbed the onrushing Carducci but the ball didn't drop kindly for either him or Osvaldo Ramirez and was the Cavalry defence just about held out.

Still, the goal is a moment to cherish for Abzi, the organization and the supporters.
