The 27-year-old is currently with his Nine Stripes team-mates in Victoria, BC and kept a clean-sheet in last night’s Canadian Premier League draw with Pacific FC - his third in seven games.

He will depart for North Carolina on Saturday and connect with the Whitecaps squad, ahead of their MLS fixture with Charlotte FC on Sunday afternoon.

Giantsopoulos will then return to the York United camp, ahead of the Canadian Championship quarter-final assignment with Pacific FC at Starlight Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Markham, ON native has enjoyed an excellent 2022 season so far, playing every single second of his team’s eight games across all competitions. Already featuring in the CPL’s Team of the Week, Giantsopoulos also played a crucial role in York United’s Canadian Championship penalty shootout success over Atletico Ottawa.

Giantsopoulos signed for York United in late-2020 after a two-season spell with Cavalry FC, with whom he made 10 appearances and kept four clean-sheets.

Prior to playing in the Canadian Premier League, Giantsopoulos spent a number of years in the Australian second tier, firstly with Devonport and later with Broadmeadow Magic and Launceston City. He played NCAA soccer with Adrian’s College and Calvin University, both in Michigan.

In total, the charismatic shot-stopper has made 17 appearances for York United, 15 of them starts.
