And captain Roger Thompson is set for another spell on the sidelines after coming off on Wednesday with a groin problem.

Nash appreciates the efforts his players are making to get the required results.

"I commended them for their effort and their work rate. There were a few things that I wasn't too happy with, but that's every game," he said, when quizzed on what he told the group in the locker room afterwards.

"You know, there's always things we can improve upon. So, we've got to look to repeat the good things we do. As a group we're gonna get better and improve. It's still early in the season but we've got to start picking up points."

As expected, York United needed a strong defensive showing against Whitecaps as the guests saw more of the ball (54% versus 46% ball possession). The Nine Stripes did open up their opponents and got into some good attacking areas but were second-best regarding total shots and shots on target too.

Nash observed: "I thought we did well up until they scored, as far as limiting their quality chances. They had chances, but they're always going to create chances. They're a fantastic team but I thought in the first half we defended well.''

York United are back on the road this weekend and will look to make it two away victories in the league this season when they face Pacific FC at Starlight Stadium on Sunday.
